Called the Athens of the Middle Ages, Florence was an important commercial and cultural centre not only in the medieval times but also during the Reneissance and later on. It is estimated that around 350 of the most important European artists of the second millennium lived or worked there.
There are plenty of sights to see in Florence. The city’s entire historic centre, declared a World Heritage Site in 1982 by the UNESCO, is one of them.
